Default PvP Paladin and Monk

While I'm getting boored when playing PvP, i thought about the fact that all classes except Paladin and Monk are too easy to defeat. I, a lvl20 R/Mo, am useless as a ranger, only when i play as a second monk then i can help. Don't u think those 4 classes are too silly to play good PvP?

I do agree, W/Mo is just incredibly easy to play and a great tank. Most other class's just go down super fast compared to Monks and W/Mo. Very boring in PvP because of things such as this. 8/10 W/ are W/Mo..... -.-

BTW Rangers are VERY effective in PvP. They own me everytime with Dust Trap and Fire Trap. Sucks you can't see the traps....

Oh, because you can't just say Lol. You need ten characters, but it is incredibly funny that
1) ... anyone thinks Warrior and Monks are the only classes that are useful in PvP
2) ... he is useless as a primary Ranger.
3) ... he thinks he's useful as a secondary Monk on a ranger's energy pool
4) ... he uses words like "u", "i", and refers to Paladin as a class.

But as I can't just say "lol", I had to make it a bit longer.

At the moment, arena is currently a weak reflection of skill, as it has no incentives to bring better players into arena, therefore not showing new trends and varietys into the arena PVP. Go into tombs, war/monks aren't the most popular class around, and drop just as fast as anything pretty much.

1) thats why I created this thread
2) thanks
3) because I think W/Mo and Mo are the best PvP players, i play as monk
4) first: agreed, second: I don't. I only meant to say W/Mo. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

How would you think that a Ranger could act well in PvP?

In tombs, I can't say. GvG I haven't done yet in retail, since my guild is very n00b, and from tombs experience, I haven't met a ranger I'm scared of, though I do give credit to them.

Ranger seems to have an advantage in endurance. Despite popular beliefs, rangers have the best overall endurance. You have the highest energy efficiency, you have the highest overall armour, and all your skills are pretty much based on being damn annoying. I personally don't like that, since I hate long games, but I still fear someone who consistantly spams debil shots and concusses casters.

The problem is with most PVP teams, they lose to a well organized team, and being a PUG, they obviously get slaughtered somewhat. At this point, PUGs aren't very popular for the lower skill level because tombs is the only "fun" place, yet is very repulsive. I'd rather see arena's get a promotion, tombs was never designed for newbies to consistantly play there to get slaughtered. It was made so that any team that wanted to test their mettle can. /Off topic Rant.

Well, there are numerous threads devoted to how different classes can be used in PvP. Mesmers in particular shut down healing like nobody's business. So if Healers are the best in PvP, then Mesmers are lalso the best in PvP. Necromancers shut down Wa/Mos wonderfully - not necessarily primary Necromancers, but a secondary necro is a choice thing. We are often calling for a rend enchntments to coincide with a damage spike on a monk, and on a wa/mo it's the same idea - drop the defenses, pound them. Wa/Mo is next to useless with a few hexes on them, if they can't remove them all they are neutered - I'm not very scared of a Wa/Mo suffereing from weakness and hitting less frequently, while taking damage every time he swings.

It sounds like your impressions may come from arena combat. In random arena the theme seems to be that survivability is king, as you can't rely on any form of teamwork or support. I can see how Wa/Mo and Mo would do well there, as the mesmer/necro who could strip enchanments and burying their healing isn't getting any support, but in organised matches it is quite different - a mesmer is a great character, a pair of rangers can do a lot of harm and so on. If you haven't tried tombs you should take part in it, it is quite different, and being able to concentrate on removing defenses or shutting down spells is a nice freedom, knowing that your monk will do his job and that your warriors will do theirs.

The reason you see so many Monks and Warriors (paladins) in pvp (especially 4v4) is because those people are newbies. They don't know that Necromances and Mesmers can debuff people (which by the way makes monks, elementalists and warriors die in seconds). As for Rangers - they are underpowered, and are only good for situations when someone decides to run around in a 4v4 game for an hour to no end. I feel like they need to be reworked.

This is an oversimplification, not all W/Mo are newbies. I'm playing a W/Mo15 right now (I hadn't realized when I chose my class that they were ubiquitous, BTW), and it didn't take me long to realize how much trouble a Mesmer could land me in with just Shatter Enchantment and Power Spike.

However, as pointed out by Epinephrine, players in random arenas rarely engage in teamwork, often, the party will have no healing monk, and in this situation, a self-supporting class does have a certain advantage.

1) There aren't that many Me or N in random arenas; 2) some of those that do play in arena are just as incompentent as the stereotypical W/Mo that charges the other team apparently thinking to take them all on by himself (and dying a quick death); 3) Me and N are fragile classes, certainly more fragile than warriors, and Empathy, while pretty nifty, isn't the instant warrior killer that many claim it is; and 4) in random arenas, it's rare that people will abandon their target to go defend the healer/debuffer/interrupter.

This reality tends to make W/Mo, not a perfect combination by any means, but a viable class that does have some success in random play. I for one win significantly more often than I lose, so I guess I'm not too much of a liability for my team at least.

5 of the 8 skills I run as a r/n in Tombs, and needless to say, it's very, very easy for me to shut down 1-2 mages. Don't try to kill something, please, it's embarassing. Oh, and drop the monk sub, seriously. Play your class as pure support, because that's all it ever will be.

I kill plenty enough as it is, thank you very much, not the most lethal class combination there is, but not the least effective either. I'll see about dropping the monk secondary when I get to level 20. I'm doing fine with it in both PvE and PvP, and I know for a fact that W/Mo are still being played at high level. Why don't you e-mail them your thoughts regarding the uselessness of W/Mo.
